New Zealand Sign Language

Can you guess what we are learning in this video with Mrs Innes?

Junior Kapa Haka

Can you spot anyone from Moana Base singing Pusi Nofo?
Can you have a guess as to what this waiata is about?

Road Safety and New Zealand Sign Language Week

We turned our classroom into the streets of Hoon Hay! We had constable Annabel and scooter kids, Stephanie and Megan.
We talked about:

  • Carefully walking/scootering on footpaths and to look out for 'sneaky' driveways.
  • Where to walk in car parks.
  • Where to cross the road safely.
  • The importance of wearing a seat belt.
  • Safety equipment to wear when riding our bikes and scooters on the road/foot path.
Have a conversation with your child about some of the important things they took away from our Road Safety lessons.

During Sign Language week we performed some role plays in pairs to practise asking each other in sign language if a buddy would like to play rugby, basketball, tennis or soccer. Can you figure out what we are signing below?

Cross Country

Moana Base did extremely well in the Cross Country last term. We are very proud of all of the children who ran and persisted to finish the race. Tō kaha hoki koutou.

Apples Galore

At the end of last term we had a speed race to see who could peel their apples the fastest, along with having the longest apple peel. It was a great learning experience for us all. Most of us had never peeled an apple before. Mrs Coates and Miss Woodgate had a race too. We measured each of their peels and added the measurements together. Come on into Moana Base and look at our apple measurement equations on our problem solving wall.
